Foundation Stage Curriculum

The children in their first year of education have a specialised curriculum – this year is known as the Foundation Stage.  The learning for these children is organised around Early Learning Goals, which are steps in children’s learning and development that lead into the National Curriculum.

The Early Learning Goals are based around six areas of the learning which are: personal, social and emotional development; communication, language and literacy; mathematical development; knowledge and understanding of the world – this includes learning about history, places and cultures and includes appropriate aspects of RE; physical development; creative development.
Learning in the Foundation Stage is achieved in various ways incorporating structured play activities, set tasks and teacher/adult interaction as well as many opportunities to learn new skills independently.
