All about us
All the children in Isle class are in Year 6. Our class is named after the river Isle that runs through Isle Abbots and Isle Brewers. This is a very exciting year as we go on a school journey together to Greatwood camp in the Quantock Hills. You can see what we got up to this year if you visit the ‘Trips’ section of our website.
Isle class teacher is Mrs Atkins. Because she is the deputy head teacher too, Isle class are also taught by Team Theme on Tuesday afternoons and by Mrs Ramwell on Wednesday afternoons. We are very lucky to have a fantastic teaching assistant who works with us – Mrs Ward. We don’t know what we’d do without her.
Expectations
We have a class charter which shows all the things we aim to do in Isle class to make sure we are always learning well and having fun. We are very proud of our charter as we had an excellent discussion about what our rules really meant; we discovered a lot of the rules we had come up with could be summed up by the four rules below:

We also have a class motto that we think about when we need to remind ourselves to keep going!

Organisation
Isle class have PE on a Tuesday and Friday afternoon. We bring our PE kits in on Monday and take them home on a Friday.
Isle class have Literacy and Numeracy homework, which is set on a Wednesday to be handed in the following Monday. This work reinforces and extends work done in the classroom. The children also have spellings to learn and these are given out on a Monday.
Children are expected to be reading at home – either to themselves or to an adult – or even better – both! The children are also expected to have fast and accurate recall of their times tables so practice at home is always beneficial.
Communication
If you wish to speak to us, Mrs Atkins and Mrs Ward are both on the playground from 8.50 every morning, or please feel free to phone and leave a message and Mrs Atkins will call you back.
Transfer
Year 6 is an important year in terms of preparation for secondary school. We set the children targets in Literacy and Numeracy to help them reach the standards that they need to be able to access their next stage of education.
Most of our children transfer to Huish Episcopi Science and Languages College
We have good links with the local secondary school and the Year 7 tutor visits the children twice during the year. There is a transition day which the children spend at the secondary school in July. One of the most popular moving on events is a treasure hunt around the ‘big school’!
As a parent you are able to express your choice of preference for secondary education and the L.E.A. will consider your request.
