Governors
The Governing Body - School Year 2011/2012
The purpose of the Governing Body of the School is to:
- Promote a high standard of education
- Plan the School's long term future
- Oversee the School's aim, values and ethos
- Appoint the Headteacher and senior staff
- Ensure proper financial management of the school
- Communicate openly with parents, the local community and the local education authority
- Support the School
The Governing Body governs rather than manages. It is there to give direction and focus by performing a strategic role. It works in a close and balanced partnership with the Headteacher who is the lead professional.
How does it function?
The Full Governing Body normally meets, all together, twice a term. In addition a number of committees meet during the term and report back to the next full Governors' meeting. At Huish Episcopi School we have a Curriculum, Finance, Personnel and Premises Committees.
How it is made up?
The Governing Body is made up of representatives from a number of groups which have a 'stake' and interest in the School:-
Governors representing parents, teachers and staff are elected. Other Governors are appointed from the Local Authority and Community. The normal term of office is four years.
