    Medicines in School

It is that time of year again when lots of children develop coughs and colds and occassionally feel 'under the weather'.  Could I please remind you that school policy does not allow us to administer any over the counter medicines in school. If it is essential that your child takes prescribed medicines during the schoool day prior arrangements need to be made.  Please see Mrs Meredith or Mrs Harris in the school office in this instance.

    Thank You

  • Sedgemoor's new term starts with a bang! (Well, a fizz!)

    Thu, 22/09/2011 - 2:12pm

The new volcano topic has got off to a great start in our class, and the children are proving themselves to be enthusiastic learners!  We have identified several different volcanoes around the world, and have begun to study the Pacific Ring of Fire as a site of much of the world's volcanic activity.  We have also been creating our own volcanoes in class - mixing vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to produce a gentle flow of fizzing 'lava', experimenting with toothpaste, washing up liquid and rice crispies to explore lava flow and pressure, and using the properties of hot and cold water to create an underwater volcano!

The children also have a "Volcanic Challenge" to attempt at home - can they create their own model volcano?  Henry has already brought in an amazing chicken wire and papier mache version, and there are many other ways to make one too.  Perhaps a painted cardboard structure; maybe a plastic bottle and modelling clay; even careful use of a construction kit like Lego!  Those containing a bottle could even be made to erupt! Please have a go with your child, and bring the final piece into school the week after half term.

We look forward to seeing all of the wonderful creations!
